Slides RS is a static site generator specialized in presentations — a "static slide generator", so to speak.
It allows you to create so-called decks and manage them with Git version control — something that, as we all know, isn't really possible with PowerPoint. This makes Slides RS well-suited for teams that want to collaborate on high-quality presentations over the long term — such as training institutes.
The software is written in Rust and runs on Windows, Mac and Linux. The clean domain model and extensible architecture are also documented — in the arc42 format.
There is also a comprehensive test suite that safeguards existing functionality and prevents regressions.
Slides RS is extensively documented. I find the comparison with PowerPoint particularly interesting.
With Slides RS, a presentation is no longer a binary blob that you send around as final_v3_really_final.pptx, but rather a repository with diffs and version history.
In the future, this could lead to much more. My girlfriend Helga and I have already been dreaming up a frontend layer during one of our walks in the woods. I could implement this using Tauri. That sounds like a lot of fun!
