The Path
I'm an educational scientist (BEd) - and I've been building software for over twenty years.
A rare combination. To me it makes sense: both professions are about making complex things understandable. Just one for people. One for machines.
How I Build
I'm a practitioner. With an iron preference for maintainability.
I've seen too many client projects where technical debt gets paid off over years with interest and compound interest. My take: the software I write today must be understandable to whoever works on it in three years - especially when that's me.
That's called ownership. Anyone who hasn't felt it in their bones doesn't really know what it's about.
I felt it first-hand on my very first web project: poet-3.com.
Why I Teach
Because teaching quality is one of the few things that can actually be measured. And because every course shows me I can help people move forward.
That's reward enough.
Away from the Screen
I'm a nature lover and a dog person. When I'm not at the keyboard, I'm outside - usually with my dog on the leash.
Some people can't switch off from code. I can. That helps.
